Assessment and its evaluations are inherently unjust and inequitable for diverse populations of students because of the nature of one dimensional design. Rubrics often emphasize a product-based model that places the greatest emphasis on a single performance of understanding, leaving many students overwhelmed and underprepared to be successful. With that in mind, I am seeking out a new and imaginate form for assessment and its evaluation that encompass a more holistic form for grading and evaluating student assessments. In doing this, I will be exploring portfolio assessment and how to successfully implement and evaluate them as a primary kind of assessment.
Below is a “ How To” Guide for imagining and implementing portfolio assessments. It contains explanations of each of a portfolio's major parts, a step by step guide for how to introduce the assignment to a classroom, and various rubric resources and models to ensure equitable evaluation for the portfolio assessment.

Why does poetry matter? What can poetry give to us as humans? I wanted to look at how poetry is used in the contexts of issues such as social justice, mental health awareness, and more. By engaging in research using various articles, videos, and books, reading a series of poems, along with writing poems of my own, I was able to discover the immense power that poetry can give to the individual. Furthermore, I was able to discover some connections between poetry and education, beginning to understand how that power of poetry can be beneficial within the classroom.
