The Kite Runner

This is a unit designed for an 11th grade World Literature course. It is centered around the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Students read the novel, learned about the history of Afghanistan and the US Involvement with conflict, wrote research papers, and then built kites to fly outside.

Your Novel Pitch

This unit was created for a Creative Writing class where students were tasked with creating a concept for a novel and bringing it to life for a "publishing company." The students had to design websites around their novel content that they created and then present them to the class.

Banned Books

This unit was designed as the last unit for an AP Literature class. The unit as centered around 4 different independent reading novels that he students could choose from. Through the unit, the students participated in literature circles with other student who chose their same novel, learned about the history of banned books, researched current school districts where books are banned, and ultimately wrote letters to school districts who have books banned advocating for change.

Between the World and Me

This unit is centered around the novel Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. The students read the novel, participated in rich discussion groups, researched the history of activism within the US and ultimately wrote letters to advocate for specific change within their community.
